Each time I do a shoot with friends, I have new favourite photos, and feel like I'm improving, so that's a good thing right? These are some of the photos of Helen from the other day when her, Caitlin and I went up to some wheat fields to make the most of the last dregs of sun!

new year, new york!

2011 has begun, and I started it in New York City. Not a bad way to start a year to be honest! It was a fantastic 5-day holiday, and I can't remember the last time I walked so much. It was just my mum and I, so we walked for miles and did all the things that we wanted to do, and it was the most fun I've had in a long time. I took over a 1,000 photos and videos, so I still need to sort those out. I think the best thing about this holiday was that I came home with a Macbook Pro, which I am in complete and utter love with. It's been my dream laptop for a long time and to actually own one, wow. I also bought an instax 210 while I was out there but I think due to the cold in NY some of the film is damaged, I'll have to just see how it goes. Can't believe I have to go back to school tomorrow, it's just not going to feel right. I can't wait to be in a city again.

maybe I'll be working until I'm dead,

I turned 16 in July, and since then, I've had three jobs. I haven't been fired from these jobs, no, they've just run their course for the while. My first was excellent, my favourite by far with the best pay, the second was flexible with again, good pay, and I could get through it. The job I'm doing at the minute is okay, I work with friends and in a team, a good thing to put on my CV, but I know some people older than me who aren't in full-time education and don't have a job; they're wasting their lives. I know I complain about working, being tired and such afterwards, but I don't think I take it for granted. I love earning money, I love knowing it's mine, and I like being sensible with it. However the way things are looking in the world, it's unlikely that I'll be able to build up a decent pension unless I hit the jack-pot with a million-pound paying job, but I shouldn't be thinking about that at the minute, should I? I'm young. Not stupid. I want to enjoy life, so I guess I just need to do the dirty work now and maybe then I'll appreciate things a lot more in the future; this is just a head-start.

a first for everything,

It's been a long time since I said to myself, "Rukaya, you need to make a proper blog!" as in one to post extra photos of mine that won't be posted anywhere else, or film photographs that I want to put online, a collection of thoughts or other tidbits from my life. I'll be honest, it's only because Tumblr is down that I've really started this, but it's what I needed. Hopefully, I'll properly use this blog! It's good as well, because I've been wanted to follow some people's blogs on here but haven't been able to as I haven't had an account. Now? No excuses.
